LE COMITÉ DES ARCHIVES DE LA LOUISIANe

Le Comite des Archives de la Louisiane is the nonprofit support group for the Louisiana State Archives. Founded in 1978, Le Comité is a 501(c)(3) historical preservation and genealogy organization. The society purchases books, microfilm, manuscripts and other materials for the State Archives. Membership in the society is on a calendar year basis. Dues are $15 per year plus $5 for members who join or renew after March 1. Click HERE to print a membership application form.

Benefits of membership include the society's quarterly journal, le Raconteur, a discount on the purchase of other publications and free admission to the society's annual meeting.

Le Raconteur is published in March, June, September and December. Each issue contains a variety of genealogical and historical articles dealing with topics from around Louisiana. A list of articles from 1984 to the present is available on the Tables of Contents page. Prices and availability of back issues are indicated on this page as well. Additionally, an annual full-name index is included in the December issue. The annual indexes from 1984 to the present are also available for downloading in .TXT format on the Annual Indexes page.

Le Comité has also published numerous genealogical and historical books. These have included guides, indexes and abstracts to historical record collections, censuses, tombstone inscriptions and a Civil War diary. The society’s annual meeting is held in September or October of each year. The annual meeting for 2008 has been scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008 at 1 p.m. Click HERE to view the program for the annual meeting.

The society welcomes monetary donations to help defray the cost of acquiring materials for the State Archives Research Room. Donations to the society may be tax deductible. Click HERE to view a list of recent microfilm purchases.
