The official Web site for the State of Louisiana is the entry point for information on state government with links to all agencies, boards and commissions. The Web site includes tourist information, sections on culture and history, information for students and more.
The State Library of Louisiana was established in 1925, and the Carnegie Corporation, the great philanthropic organization which spent millions on libraries throughout the United States, selected Louisiana as recipient of a $50,000 grant to demonstrate library service on a statewide basis. The Louisiana State Library became a leader in providing library services to the state's citizens and today remains one of the most comprehensive systems in the United States. In June of 1999, the library made an online catalog available, along with many indexes and databases.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION
The Louisiana Governor's Mansion Foundation was establised to finance, through the private sector, the refurbishment, preservation and operation of the Governor's Mansion for the people of Louisiana. The project will cast a new light on the importance of caring for the symbols of Louisiana's rich, colorful, historical and political past. This undertaking will serve as a model for like endeavors of the future.
Located in Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana, Magnolia Mound Plantation is a rare example of the architectural influences of early settlers from France and the West Indies. One of Louisiana's oldest wooden structures, Magnolia Mound looks exactly as it did in the 1800s and remains an example of bousillage construction. Visit their Web site and take a virtual tour. The Foundation for Historical Louisiana promotes the preservation of the cultural and architectural heritage of Louisiana through education, advocacy and stewardship. Visit their Web site to learn about historic sites in and around Baton Rouge including Louisiana's Old State Capitol, the Old Governor's Mansion, the Old Arsenal Museum, the Pentagon Barracks and Magnolia Mound Plantation.
HABS Louisiana is the Louisiana component of the Historic American Buildings Survey. It was developed by the Louisiana State University School of Architecture and is part of the Louisiana Heritage Network. The HABS Web site is a good source for drawings, images and other information about historic buildings in Louisiana.
Lafourche Parish Historic Places includes a listing of 28 buildings in Lafourche Parish on the National Register of Historic Place in addition to six in Assumption Parish.
San Francisco Plantation, built in 1856 by Edmond Bozonier Marmillion, is said to be the most distinctive and only authentically restored plantation on the River Road. The San Francisco Plantation House is a 45 minute drive west of New Orleans, off U.S. 61, making it a convenient side-trip for visitors to the Crescent City, or those en route to Baton Rouge. Although the house is antebellum in a chronological sense, it is certainly not typical of the period with its unique style and coloration.

Pointe Coupée at the Millennium - Photography Project in Pointe Coupée Parish Historical photographers Allen C. Smith and Diane L. Janowski recorded daily life in Pointe Coupée Parish along the Mississippi River in Louisiana at the turn of the 21st century. The online museum includes many images from the nearly 7,500 color photographs recorded over a span of seven separate weeks between September 2001 and the present, in this beautiful Creole and Cajun region.
