TOUR INFORMATION
Located at a dynamic intersection of the city’s commercial and political districts, the former state house presides over downtown Baton Rouge's largest public green space and is the scenic gateway to the waterfront and downtown culture and tourism districts.
Tour Overview
The Old State Capitol is admission free. Groups begin their tours on the second floor in our historic House Chamber. Following a brief introduction to the building, groups enjoy a 12-minute film about the history of the Old State Capitol followed by a self-guided tour of our exhibits. We suggest groups allow one hour for the entire visit.
Enhance your museum experience with a free audio tour. Our hand-held wands present state-of-the-art sound quality and random-access technology that allows visitors to proceed through the galleries at their own pace. Audio tours are available in English, French, German and Spanish.
